The Story Incubator Writing Lab gathers exceptional screenwriters who are at a critical career tipping point. Each participant is a skilled and experienced working writer/director and each is poised to break out. Each simply needs to craft that one story that hits audiences in the right way at the right time. The Story Incubator Writing Lab is thus framed around two interlocking goals: It aims to be a career-maker and also to be a catalyst for getting exceptional, necessary stories out into the world.
Directed by Erin O’Connor and Maurice Black, the Lab meets virtually over several months. Participants receive stipends to support their work. Once the virtual Lab concludes, participants may apply for a Story Incubator Writing Fellowship to support their continued work on their project. Fellows receive a monthly stipend and work closely with Erin and Maurice to perfect and package their project. We aim at every point to strike the delicate, necessary balance between creative and commercial concerns, attending to aesthetics while also defining a path to acquisition or financing. Our goal is to ensure that Story Incubator Writing Lab projects are beautifully produced and widely distributed.
The Story Incubator Writing Lab owes its existence to the generosity of the individuals and foundations that support our work. If you are interested in applying — or giving! — please visit StoryIncubatorWritingLab.com.
